History of the NHC's Annual The National Housing Conference’s Housing Person of the Year Gala is considered by many in the housing industry to be housing’s networking event of the year. The 2012 event is the 40th annual. The evening will be a special celebration of all those dedicated professionals and volunteers who create affordable housing opportunities for veterans both in country and returning from service. By choosing this theme, NHC and the housing industry hope to “shine a light” on the tremendous housing need for veterans. Historically, NHC has honored an individual, or individuals, with the “Housing Person of the Year” Award, but felt the organizations providing veterans housing deserve recognition for their crucial work in this important area. So this year we have chosen five organizations, for their work and leadership in the veterans housing area. We expect 800 people to attend the event representing all sectors in the affordable housing community in America. We will also reach out to veterans and the groups who serve them. About the National Housing Conference The nonprofit National Housing Conference and its membership have been dedicated to helping ensure safe, decent and affordable housing for all in America since 1931. As the United Voice for Housing NHC actively engages and convenes its membership in nonpartisan advocacy for effective policy solutions at the local, state and national levels. NHC’s research affiliate, the Center for Housing Policy, works with NHC and its members to broaden understanding of the nation’s housing challenges through research on key housing issues.
