Policy Events

NHC holds conferences, symposiums and events that are both topical and timely. These events include educational symposiums, forums and discussion series’.

The programs not only provide the latest information on topics important to NHC's membership, but also offer an opportunity for professionals to network with colleagues throughout the affordable housing, community development and financial communities.

Budget Forum

This annual forum is the only event of its kind that focuses directly on the Administration’s housing budget and is considered a ‘must attend’ event among housing and community development professionals from the nation’s leading housing organizations.

Housing Forums

In response to meeting with members across the country in 2005, NHC put together two special planning forums. The goal was to help provide linkages and resources to cities as they look at affordable housing. Each city provided a unique opportunity for NHC to help identify regional and national resources to participate in meaningful dialogue. These forums both catalize local outcomes and raise the visibility level of NHC. Forums were held in West Palm Beach, FL and Phoenix, AZ during 2007 and in Austin, TX and Flagstaff, AZ during 2006.

NHC is continuing these successful regional housing forums as part of its policy activities.

Vital Link Discussion Series

NHC's “Vital Link” Discussion Series is focused on examining the connections between housing and other social and economic issues that affect the well-being of families and communities. The purpose of this in-depth series is to help further educate the housing and community development communities on these issues, which ultimately results in advancing advocacy and promoting dialogues at the local, state and national level. The Vital Link in 2007 hosted experts to discuss topics such as Asset Building and International Housing. Past Vital Link discussions have hosted relevent topics including Housing and Prisoner Reentry and Green Building & Energy Conservation.
