Statement by Conrad Egan
President and CEO of the National Housing Conference
Prepared in Response to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Plan for
Building and Preserving 165,000 Units of Affordable Housing
“This broad-based plan represents an appropriately ambitious response to New York City's housing challenges and one that is eminently achievable – creatively incorporating public, private and philanthropic resources. In addition, the plan emphasizes proven tools such as tax program updates, new public funding, utilizing surplus property, land banking, zoning improvements and other initiatives with the ultimate goal of preserving and creating affordable rented and owned homes across a broad range of family income levels.”
