Affordable Housing Leader David Hill Passes Away at Age 67Dear NHC Member Partner, It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of David Hill, chairman and former president and CEO of Kimball Hill Homes, at the age of 67. He died early Saturday morning after a long and courageous battle with cancer. David was a national leader in the development of affordable homes for working families. He took over the Rolling Meadows, Illinois, based Kimball Hill Homes from his father, Kimball, in 1969, ultimately growing the company into the Chicago area’s ninth-largest home builder, and expanding to nine states and 15 metropolitan areas. He was awarded the prestigious “Hearthouse-Builder National Lifetime Public Service Award” in 2003, which honors philanthropy in the building industry. David and his father were both inducted into the National Association of Home Builders’ “Housing Hall of Fame” for their significant and lasting national contributions to the association and the U.S. housing industry. David was a long-time supporter of NHC and its research affiliate the Center for Housing Policy, serving on the NHC Board of Trustees and on the Center’s Advisory Council. In 2007, he also served as chair of the NHC “Housing Person of the Year” Gala honoring former U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Henry Cisneros. He is survived by his wife, Diane, and his son, David K. Hill, III, of Los Angeles. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family at this difficult time.
