  • The Coastal Housing Partnership of Santa Barbara collaborates with local financial institutions to provide special mortgage financing for participating employers. Homebuyers can receive generous discounts on home inspections, escrow and lender fees, as well as credits from the real estate broker when utilizing the services of the companies that participate in the Homebuyer's Assistance Program.

Connecticut

  • The Connecticut Housing Finance Authority has an employer assisted housing revolving loan fund. It is used by eligible businesses for at least five years and must provide loans for low- and moderate-income employees. The employer must contribute between $1000 and $100,000 to the fund
New Haven, CT. Yale University/New Haven Hospital
  • Yale University and New Haven Hospital offer down payment and closing cost assistance for their employees to purchase in the Hill neighborhood, which is contiguous to both institutions

 

District of Columbia

  • Howard University’s sizable EAH program encourages employees to purchase homes in neighboring LeDroit Park. In addition to providing financial assistance for home buyers, Howard University partners with Fannie Mae, the Fannie Mae Foundation, and others to rehabilitate older homes and build new ones in the neighborhood.

Florida

  • Mercedes Homes offers an EAH program. Their full time employees are eligible to apply for home purchase assistance. They offer up to 5% of the published purchase price towards a down payment of a new Mercedes Homes home. The down payment assistance portion requires a 5 year second mortgage whereby the payments are forgiven each successive year the employee stays with the company. Eligibility is one year of continuous employment.
Miami, FL
  • Home Financing Center, the largest independently owned home mortgage lender in South Florida provides employer assisted housing benefits to its employees.   • St. Anthony's Health Care team members with six months tenure may be eligible for Employer Assisted Housing, which offers a $4,000 forgivable loan to team members who are purchasing a home for the first time.   • The Metropolitan Planning Council promotes EAH programs to companies located in counties surrounding Chicago as a strategy to address the regions jobs-housing imbalance. EAH is used to supplement employees’ incomes so they can afford to purchase a home closer to their place of work outside the central city. Some companies in high-cost suburban areas see EAH as one way to distinguish themselves from other employers that are competing for new hires.

  • Tulane University has an EAH program that provides unsecured down-payments and loans at the lesser of 2% of the purchase price or $1500. If employment is continued at Tulane, the loan does not need to be repaid.   • The City of New Orleans will provide forgivable loans for down-payments and closing cost assistance to city employees who are first-time homebuyers who have a household income at or below $57,300. Both of these EAH programs are sponsored by the Genesis Community Loan Fund in Maine which deals exclusively with affordable housing
  • Boothbay, Maine: Technical assistance to Boothbay Region Economic Development, Inc. around the feasibility of developing employer assisted housing on the Boothbay peninsula
  • Damariscotta, Maine: Technical assistance to Coastal Economic Development on the development of Ledgewood Court, a 24-unit employer assisted housing project targeted to low-income health care workers

  • Housing Minnesota has been a successful affordable housing campaign for the state of Minnesota. The campaign consists of employer assisted housing programs and advocacy
  • The Greater Minnesota Housing Fund was created in 1996 to help bring decent affordable housing to the community of Greater Minnesota.   • The Mayo Clinic, as the largest employer in the city of Rochester, operates an employer-assisted housing program for its employees.

  • BJC Health Systems and Washington University both provide down payment and closing cost assistance for their employees. These programs promote homeownership in targeted geographic areas
Kansas City, MO
  • Northland Redevelopment Partners in Kansas City, Missouri have established an EAH program that will help to attract quality employees to southern Clay County. This program works by the employer signing a letter of credit that enables an employee to make a down payment in a house. The employee than works with the employer to repay the debt over time.
  • Premium Standard Farms offers an EAH program that allows employees to by a home with some assistance

  • Creighton University in Omaha launched The New Pioneer Program with help from Fannie Mae. It is open to those who fall into the specified income range, are first-time home buyers and who buy a home within the designated $145,000 to $160,000 price bracket.   • Many universities in the New York area, including Syracuse, Le Moyne College, and Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, offer an EAH program. In particular. Le Moyne College finances 100 percent of the purchase price of a home that is available to qualified buyers, with Le Moyne College serving as guarantor on the mortgage. The home must be the employee's primary residence and can only be a single-family home, a two-family home or a townhouse. Westchester
  • The Chamber of Commerce in Westchester County offers an EAH program that is available to employers in the county. The employers must provide a financial resource or educational service to their employees and then they will be reimbursed by the county. Buffalo
  • Canisius College offers an EAH to assist their employees in purchasing a home in the City of Buffalo. The Canisius EAH program is structured as a forgivable loan program. The loans will be made to qualifying employees to assist with the down payment and closing costs for residences in eligible neighborhoods surrounding the college. Long Island
  • Suffolk County and the participating municipalities of the Suffolk County Community Development Block Grant Consortium, which includes Brookhaven, Riverhead, Smithtown, Southampton, East Hampton, Southold and Shelter Island as well as Towns of Babylon, Islip, Huntington, and Nassau County are working in partnership with the Long Island Association (LIA), the Long Island Housing Partnership, Inc.(LIHP), the New York State Affordable Housing Corporation and Fannie Mae to form the Home Works Partnership, an employer-assisted Housing Program (EAHP). The purpose of the EAHP will be to assist Suffolk and Nassau Counties businesses recruit and retain qualified employees. New York City
  • The Department of Housing Preservation and Development (HPD) in New York City created an employer assisted housing program that will allow HPD to team up with employers who would like to assist their employees in purchasing a home in the city of New York. HPD will provide the employers with technical assistance in setting up the EAH program. HPD will then match the loan or grant made available to the participants. The homes that are eligible for the EAH program are found in all five boroughs of New York, including Manhattan, Brooklyn, the Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island.   • Case Western Reserve University offers its full-time employees a subsidy of $15,000 for the purchase of a home within the university’s immediate neighborhood and $10,000 toward a home within the Cleveland city limits.   • The Home Ownership Center of Greater Cincinnati is forming partnerships with employers in the Cincinnati area who want to help their employees on the road to home ownership.   • With assistance from Fannie Mae and the USDA Rural Development, the Rural Enterprises of Oklahoma, Inc. offers an employer assisted housing program to participating companies to provide affordable housing to the rural Oklahoma workforce. REI has obtained funding for matching funds which can not exceed $2,500 per family, with a maximum per company based on number of employees.   • City of Portland offers an EAH program to its city employees. Employees receive a discount and a special loan program from the Continental Saving Bank when purchasing a home.   • The University of Pennsylvania has developed a three-part program with down payment assistance, mortgage guarantees, and home improvement components for employees who are re purchasing or already own homes in West Philadelphia. This type of program generally requires some type of financial incentive to offset the risk associated with living in a less desirable neighborhood and often seeks to encourage moderate-income families to relocate to these neighborhoods.

  • The Gateway Corporation master leases 20 apartment units and owns six town homes near its facility. These units are provided to new employees and contract consultants. The employees reimburse the company for rent, but do not have to cover deposits or utilities. On average employees stay in the units for two to six months, while finding or building a home in the area. Tennessee

  • The Advance Food Company Housing Benefit Program was launched during October 2001 at the company's headquarters and main facility in Enid, Oklahoma, and extended to the company's 250 Tennessee workers shortly afterward. In January 2002, the program was extended to the Advance Food Company’s employees at the company’s Caryville, TN plant. The EAH program offers qualified employees forgivable loans up to $2,500, to be used for assistance with down payment and closing costs and for property repairs. Borrowers must be employed with Advance for at least one year in order to be eligible for the housing benefit. Chattanooga, TN
  • In 1994, the Chattanooga Neighborhood Enterprise (CNE) partnered with Memorial Hospital to create a down payment assistance program for hospital employees. This program assists persons associated with Memorial Hospital interested in locating in nearby neighborhoods to offset the initial costs of homeownership by providing a second mortgage (loan) to help make housing affordable and reduce first mortgage payments. Interested home buyers must have on hand sufficient funds for a down payment less $400.00 which will be contributed by Memorial Hospital for each employee at closing. The first and second loan must be obtained through CNE. El Paso, TX
  • The city of El Paso has an EAH program that helps city employees, teachers, and employees of the El Paso Housing Authority to purchase homes. The Program is offered in conjunction with a $27 million mortgage revenue bond (MRB) issued by the El Paso Housing Finance Corporation and purchased by Fannie Mae. Qualified employees receive a grant equivalent to 5 percent of the amount of the loan. Of this amount, 4 percent is funded by the proceeds from the MRB and is available to all qualified home buyers. The additional 1 percent is funded by the El Paso Housing Finance Corporation. The El Paso Empowerment Zone Corporation also provides matching grants of up to $5,000 for EAH participants to use toward down payment and closing costs for the purchase of a residence located within the boundaries of the Empowerment Zone.   • SkyWest Airlines in enrolled in the Quicken Loans Home Loan Benefit program. As part of the program, the company employees receive discounts on closing costs and mortgage education via onsite seminars and “webinars.” Participating companies also are assigned a team of Quicken Loans mortgage professionals who assist employees with their mortgage needs, whether it's to purchase a home, refinance their existing mortgage, or take out a home equity loan. The Quicken Loans Home Loan Benefit Program is a no-cost, turn-key, work / life benefit program. Participating companies incur no out-of-pocket expenses to implement the program, which is fully managed by Quicken Loans.
