Veterans Permanent Supportive Housing: Policy and Practice

Veterans returning from service often need tools and resources to transition successfully to civilian life, and permanent supportive housing can help. Permanent supportive housing is an affordable apartment linked with case management and supportive services to address the persistent challenges that put a subset of veterans at risk of homelessness. Permanent supportive housing is a proven solution to veterans’ homelessness, a problem that affects men and women who have been recently discharged as well as those who served decades ago. While the full range of veterans’ housing needs goes beyond homelessness and includes a broader range of issues such as foreclosure prevention, homeownership assistance, and housing affordability, this guide focuses specifically on solutions for permanently housing homeless veterans.
