Young Leaders in Affordable Housing launch mentorship program

by Young Leaders in Affordable Housing leadership

On Nov. 8, the Young Leaders in Affordable Housing (YLAH) kicked off the 2012 Mentorship Program. Thirty five mentors and mentees attended the reception in Washington, D.C., which was the first opportunity for many mentors and mentees to meet one other in person.

In total, more than forty YLAH members have signed up as mentees and over twenty mentors have volunteered to serve as mentors for the upcoming year. Both mentors and mentees represent organizations from across the country and the affordable housing industry, from policy nonprofits to financial institutions to federal agencies.

The Mentorship program continues to seek mentors. Mentors, seasoned professionals in the affordable housing field, will meet with their mentees on at least a quarterly basis. Mentors will provide career guidance, as well as a fresh perspective on the industry. Serving as a mentor is an opportunity for experienced professionals to invest in the future of the affordable housing field.

With more than 150 members, YLAH is the leading association of young professionals in the fields of housing and community development. YLAH will continue to support the growth of the Mentorship Program over the upcoming year through events organized by the Professional Development Committee leadership to engage both mentors and mentees. We welcome suggestions and feedback on future program activities.
